Here's something weird, though. At some point, I taught myself to press my tongue to my palate and close my lips, then draw a small breath out of my mouth to create a weak vacuum that seals my mouth shut with air pressure. I did this to avoid drooling while I sleep, and it is 100% effective. BUT I eventually realized (after many years of sleeping this way) that while my jaw muscles are relaxed this way, my tongue muscle is not, and that - combined with the internal negative pressure inside my mouth - can cause me headaches. I do this maneuver all the time now, even while I am awake, and it encourages me to grind my teeth. It is a very difficult habit to break.
