The only similar mythological creature I know of is Ox-Head in Chinese mythology. Ox-Head is a demon guard where he escorts souls to Enma (Yamaraj) before the god of the underworld would judge them. Just checked wikipedia and interestingly, Ox-Head's name in Japanese is Gozu. Not sure if they're one and the same. There are also bull demons and cow gods in Hinduism so the origins could have sprung from those.
