The thing about Scream is that if you weren't around when it came out in theaters and how it turned teen slashers movies around, it doesn't have the same effect as seeing it years later on TV or online, it makes it's impact less because of all the films that came after it and seeing those perhaps before it.

Asheville native here. Moved back in '87. You could have mentioned the connection between traffic, housing costs and income. Yes, tourists significantly increase traffic, especially in Summer and Fall. Then we have many tourists who decide to move here, further increasing traffic on roads that have a hard time accommodating them and often with higher incomes & willing to pay higher costs for houses. So many thousands who serve the tourists and high end customers can no longer afford to pay for housing in the city so they keep having to move further out of town and commuting in. Voila - much higher traffic numbers. The low pay for so many is probably a significant contributor to the increase in crime, which is mostly thefts and robberies. Things were much different when I moved back in '87. Downtown was nearly abandoned, but was brought back to life in large measure by artistic types and hippies willing to take a chance on opening up various funky little shops because rents were low. Unfortunately, their success became the goose that laid the golden egg. So many wealthier tourists fell in love with the downtown scene and decided to move here that they drove up costs for both houses and rents for apartments and shops downtown. Those few artistic types that remain are being driven to other locations out of downtown or out of the city altogether. My new motto is - Love Asheville? Thanks for visiting but please go home.
