We have had 4 dachshunds we raised, 3 of the 4 had back problems my 4th one Mocha had surgery and lived a wonderful full life, she passed at 17 years old, of old age. My first one Suzze was a living doll we loved her so very much. I came home from work one day noticed her dragging her back end and crying from the pain. We rush her to the vet to be told that her back had a ruptured disk. What happened next was to put her down (which I would have never agreed to see was only 2 yrs old), or go through a long long recovery process. So Suzze was put on pain medicine, and steroids, put in confinement, I lined a dresser drawer with pillows, baby blankets, and potty pads to keep her immobile. This continued for several weeks. My son would come home at he's lunch time to give her her medicine and would call me at work to report on her. Once the medicine started working her pain had subsided she was wagging her tail, and eating so food. Our vet said we could try letting her walk with her front legs so we made a harness to go around her tummy, plus support her back. It took her time to adjust to walking on her front legs but we think she finally enjoy being out and about. This we a long process but in our hearts we kept faith that it helped. Our next exercise was filling the bathtub with warm water place her in tub holding her tummy and lower back then hold her and go back and forth to get her to patil back an forth. Dogs natural instinct is to swim. After thinking I had broken my ribs doing this 2 time a dayπ¬ for weeks she started kicking her back legs. It was the most exciting thing to see. We all knew she will recover a walk againππππ Our vet was so happy with her progress he lowered the amount of medicine we had been giving herππ. At that point we moved her dresser drawer into my husband and my bed between us. It was so nice having her next to us again. At night my husband would take her out to potty in the back yard. We did this for a few weeks, and then one night I heard a blood curtailing scram it was about 2 am in the morning it scared the hell out of me and our sons. Then we heard my husband crying Suzze can walk.....we all sat there watching her walk slowly and wobblyπππ’π’ crying holding her with so much excitement and loveπΎπΎπππΆπΆππππππ
