A little work? A lot of work! This brings back great memories of the crappiest vehicle I ever had! I used to work for Ryder truck rental, so back in 1991, I picked up my 88’ S15 king cab pick up, with 250,000 km, for only $1000. Because it was a service vehicle I know it was really well cared for, I know that because I am the guy that service it for most of its life up until then, and I always took great pride in my work, and I still do, but I was in a jam. Ya see, my 1983 5.0 Mustang had just crapped out for good, if only I knew what I was buying, but they were eager to get rid of it, and I was a starving student, so I took it…. Even though I serviced it, I never actually drove it on the road, I probably should’ve did that before I paid for it. It was the most gutless vehicle I’ve ever drove in my life! It was a five speed manual factory stock six cylinder, that did 0 to 100 in about 15 minutes, if I had a good tailwind! It was reliable as hell, I put that thing through hell and back, and it never died, so I have to give it credit for its durability, but creature comforts and power? No such luck! That thing was so gutless, I swear to God I could accelerate faster on a bicycle, the only saving grace is that no matter how much weight I was hauling, the power never weakened, and I kept it for three years putting another 150 thousand kilometres on it, and sold it for $5000 to the apartment complex I was living in (they needed a vehicle to haul out the trash bins from the underground garage, so I actually made 4 grand on the deal). I sold it because I was tired of having no power, and because it needed about $1000 worth of work, money I couldn’t spare because I was just starting out in life trying to pay off my student debts. But I did baby it, and I didn’t try scamming anyone, I was totally honest about it needing work, but because it was a big corporation that bought it they didn’t care, they just wanted something to haul around trash bins. The ironic thing is I probably could’ve gotten more, but because it needed work, I settled on only 5000, the thing that kills me, is the guy that picked it up from my parking spot, to take it down to the level beneath me, didn’t have the first clue how to drive a standard transmission and wrapped the truck around one of the garages pillars! It could’ve needed $10,000 in work, but they would have never discovered it because he totalled the vehicle literally 30 seconds after picking it up! Bonus for me, and even though it had no power, well, no acceleration power, it was one hell of a great workhorse, and I have a LOT of good memories in that truck, especially in the back of it, if you know what I mean, wink wink! Thank God that truck can’t talk, I’d be in jail! Lol!
