Very interesting topic. If the goal is to fix this we have to look at it from a neutral non-judgemental point. What are the facts? It’s been proven to be highly addictive. It benefits off of our natural emotions and takes the fantasy into an ongoing cycle. In a way, it distorts reality by fulfilling various deep emotional and physical needs in a matter of minutes. I think it’s a highly efficient tool. The side effects are again a distorted view of what is expected from women AND men. Everyday women, young women, glamorous women being 24/7 available in mind and body for anyone’s pleasure. Also, men are largely unfocused except for their endowment. Their stamina and aggression the only things they are valued for. Porn devastates people of all ages and it’s so readily accessible it starts to creep into the minds of our youngest who become exposed through music videos and media in general. Porn is simply a click away. So in my opinion I appreciate the issue being brought up and discussed. There’s shame and guilt revolving this topic which could prevent any individual from seeking help. Becoming self-aware that without frequent exposure to it we notice a negative change in our behavior, mood, or relationship quality and health is a sign that deep down we are not actually satisfied with this method. It’s absolutely natural to want love and connection! It just makes sense to our minds to check off one more need off of our daily list in a matter of minutes as opposed to experiencing the roller coaster of emotions that comes with starting a new relationship. We are obsessed with productivity, hustling, a fast-paced lifestyle to try and get us to that fantasy we all have of being at the top. Ironic that once I shut off my phone and go outside life seems to pass by slowly. I wonder if we are trapped in a fantasy, an addiction and a cycle within other cycles, within bigger cycles that we are constantly fighting against. The modern world never stops, bills need to be paid, careers advanced, businesses started, biological clock ticking all while we can literally compare our current life to so many others. I can easily see why we are dissatisfied in so many ways. We are denying our humanity and trying to “build” ourselves into endless energy robots that can meet goals and expectations of absolutely everyone but ourselves. (Woah maybe I got carried away, but CoVid got me thinking too much).
