These traditions are usually within small communities and vary a lot over any of the countries. I studied cultural anthropology which is getting harder to study in the field due to so much cross cultural contact now so most of the important studies were done before transportation and communications outside of their community. All of these traits were found in some communities but very few are common to wide regions. Some of the most interesting cultures to observe were in the Pacific Islands because there was so few interactions with other island. Almost all the traditions that seem strange to modern societies actually made sense in small communities for them to be successful for so many centuries in isolation. Most objectively made a lot of sense in preventing decline by mating with too close of relatives. If a tradition did not aid in the community survival, they would not have lasted so many centuries. All societies eventually die off, like is happening in Europe and US, with birth rates in 40 years have dropped dramatically so only first generation immigrants are having replacement rates of births.
