Thanks for covering more Ennis. I own and love everything he’s done, but the sweet spot really is what he was doing in that late 90’s/early 00’s “dark era” with Preacher, Hitman, Punisher, The Boys, Rifle Brigade, Bloody Mary, and of course The Pro. I love all his current war books, but if you want really great character driven stories and humor, this is the best era. It makes sense in a way that you guys might have skipped the Boys just based on the fact that it’s 12 TPB’s long, so it’s a larger cash/time investment, but if you like the long form/ensemble cast + extremely graphic/offensive nature of Preacher, and the knock at superheroes of The Pro, I think you guys would really dig it. It’s odd thinking about it now that Ennis did Pro for Image, then took Boys to Wildstorm, because DC canceled it after like 6 issues (probably due to how offensive it was) and he had to move it to Dynamite in order to get the freedom to do it the way he wanted. I bet Image could’ve pulled it off for him, but either way, it’s pretty damn good. Same goes for Hitman, and even though it’s DC and therefore not nearly as “R” rated, it’s another long and super enjoyable series with characters you just can’t help but fall in love with. Hitman was kind of a perfect series that I wished would never end.
