Look for companies who make their products here in the US. That will eliminate a lot of companies, which makes it easier for you to narrow down your choice. The advantages are better quality sewing, which prevents glass sand from leaking onto your bed. Better fabrics and more choices. Better everything. Many companies will not take returns, so check the return-exchange policy. The biggest thing I’ve found is that many companies offer the heavier weights in larger sizes only. That doesn’t do anyone any good, because the smaller blankets will concentrate the weight on you, more than a larger blanket will. These are therapy blankets, not bed linens. I wouldn’t go any bigger than the 60x80, which is the size of the top of a queen mattress. But, if you’re bigger, you’ll use more of that blanket and it may be okay. But, whatever weight is left on the bed, is useless to you. If you tend to move around, then a bigger size may be better, but again, it’s about the concentration of that weight, not the dispersion of the weight which is most important. If you look at Sensory Goods website, you’ll see they offer a few sizes, but within each size category, you can choose a minimum of two weights up to four or five and that’s what’s important. Just getting a big 15 lb blanket will not seem as heavy ON YOU, as a smaller 15 lb blanket, which is MOSTLY on you. It’s all about concentration of the weight. The rule of thumb in choosing a weight is 10% of,your body weight, plus one-two lbs. A person weighting 150 lbs. should stick with a 15,16 or 17 lb blanket and not one which would be overly large but fit them best. Choose a company which allows exchanges and returns. You many need to try two or three, just like Goldilocks.
